Under the Lights: I May Have Plans Thursday

underthelightsGood evening everybody. Today was a bit of a travel day here at MLJ. Hef, Rex, clown and Hef’s Gay Magician friend made their way home from Mexico and the rest of us made our way back to sobriety. As far as lazy, uninspired Mondays go, this may have been the most stupendous ever.  As I am trembling in the excitement that is the Oliver Perez resigning, a glimmer of hope seems to be shining. Word is maybe, possibly, sort of, it could happen that the Mets may or may not possibly talk to Scott Boras about Manny maybe thinking about playing for the Mets. I am excited.

Sometimes, Met ownership needs a little jolt to make the right decisions. Last week, 30 of my brethren made their way outside of SNY studios for the “Million Manny March”. It got some attention but was mocked in some quarters as lame. Well, it is fucking lame. As a Met fan, that we have to resort to a March to get ownership to get an all time great hitter who still performs at a top level on the relative cheap is just pathetic. But this is my team and well, I want results. Fortunately, said organizers are doing it again Thursday. 7PM outside SNY studios during the live Mets Hot Stove show. I looked at the old calendar and clown and I switched days due to his traveling back from his Gheycation. So Thursday, if Manny is still a free agent, I am going to go to this thing. I am going to step it up and be a member of the masses. That and I will bring a camera and get some material to write so you can mock me even more than you already do. While I make my oaktag poster for the march we can all watch some of the following:

Lakers/Knicks

Blazers/Hornets

Mavericks/Magic

Blues/Red Wings

Flames/Avs

Sabres/Ducks

UConn/Louisville

Kansas/Baylor

  1. First!

    /Hef sucks.

  2. Roman: That Ollie Perez contract is arguably the worst contract of the offseason — even worse than Ibanez!

  3. I disagree..it is bad but Ibanez is terrible..Perez is going to be 27 this year and will be 30 when it is over. He will be tradeable. Ibanez is an old man who will drop dead in the outfield

  4. The problem is that Oliver Perez is not a good pitcher.

A young, $12 million per annum, shitty pitcher is not a valuable trade property.

  5. Nick…a young Lefty pitcher who has the ability to be good (which he does show in rather decent spurts) can be unloaded in the last year of a deal if the Mets eat a piece of the contract. No on is eating Ibanez’s anything

  6. He is extremely frustrating but look at some of these splits…which drive me up the wall…I could deal with consistent mediocrity..he is brilliant or garbage..

  7. Now if you want to know what I would have done…signed Sheets to an incentive laden deal. Sign Wolf for Garland money Sign Manny and between Sheets/Wolf/Garcia/Redding/Niese you can get 60 starts

    Now it is Johan/Pelfrey/Perez/maine/Reeding/Garcia/Niese

No Manny (maybe 1yr 25 mill come on Fred do this) and no Sheets..even with no Manny give Sheets a flier the upside is tremendous

  8. Look at his projection for this year…

Not very promising. They should have signed Sheets, IMO, for the same money.

  9. Same wavelength, and yes, Wolf is a better pitcher than Perez. That’s a no-brainer. He’ll get a cheap deal somewhere, and that team will benefit.

  10. Actually Wolf is a little worse, but the cheapness of the deal will more than make up for it.

  11. Nick..I bet he signs for half the money…Sheets has the highest upside and with the Mets inventory they could have protected his arm…Ollie is a pea brain..if he had any sort of concentration he could harness the talent but he gets distracted by nats or birds or talking or his own thoughts

  12. wow the Mets paid a $5 million premium according to that

  13. The Mets can afford to pay up the win curve since they’re closer to the playoffs…but man I’d have gone with Sheets!

I’d like to know if there were any offers in the vicinity of that deal from other teams for Ollie.

  14. CBH- Dont you find it Ironic that Kobe scores 61 after he takes out Bynum?

  15. I do Tampa, 20-20 from the line is very impressive.

  16. You see now his mind is clear.
